Up for sale for is this ultra rare 1990 Volvo 780 Bertone coupe. Collector owned. This was a west Coast/California car until 2017 and is now garaged in Central Virginia. If you're a Volvo collectors like me, you know this is one of their holy grail cars and if you've seen one in person it likely had cosmetic issues, rust or some other need. This one is near perfect.All photos taken May 2025.The 780 Bertone was Volvo's ultimate luxury car, coming standard with every available option and built in small numbers. Production ended with a few cars built in 1991. In 1990 only 900 or so 780's were imported to the US and an even smaller number with the redblock B230FT turbo. The body design was done in partnership with famed Italian bodyworks company Bertone. The body and interior was hand built in Italy and shipped to Sweden for completion. The drive train underneath is essentially a Volvo 740 turbo but the 780's received the "turbo plus" option boosting horsepower to 188hp.EVERYTHING is original and operational on this car except for the addition of a more modern radio. The photos really tell the story as this may be one of the nicest remaining examples in America. There is not one spec of rust anywhere. There are no dings or scratches. The engine bay looks like it just came from the factory. Starts, runs and idles as it should. It drives down the road like the luxury coupe it was intended to be. The hand crafted interior has all leather seating and hand cut wood trim on the dash and door panels.All glass is excellent.Very nice "SuperX" Volvo wheels (including spare) which were exclusive to the Bertone. They ride on excellent Michelin tires.Included is a binder of receipts and notes from prior owners on work done over the years to keep this Volvo in tip top shape. Also includes a Volvo factory shop manual. The A/C blows cold, both front powered seats are operational with no real wear noted (see photos).This 780 is being sold on a clear Virginia title in sellers name. It is titled, registered, insured and on the road. The title has a notation "rebuilt" which was not a result of an accident but was a result of a stolen/recovery incident in the 1990's in California.Personal inspections are welcomed and encouraged with an appointment.
