This is a 1982 VW Vanago, was originally a diesel with a 1.6 NA engine. Now has an M-Tdi (Mechanical Td, no computer with special pump) ALH 1.9 engine. Also has a rebuilt transaxle from Rancho Transaxle in California (I was told, no paperwork on this) Van starts instantly, runs drives and stops very well. Fun to drive and gets great economy.
Maybe a little smoky when first started up, pretty normal for a diesel! The guy who did the diesel swap was a bit of an amateu, and some things were done wrong, for example, no intercooler piped in on engine. Some hose clamps were loose and leaking. Some hoses still leak a little bit. The guy drove this 300 miles to me. so I know it is good/ healthy / et, but it is not 'dialed in, and priced accordingly.
Things wrong with the va, as far as I can tell, are : A) switch for blower motor for heater/ defroster stuck. B) Turbo not developing a lot of boost. New turbo?, probably needs some tuning. C) gives a little diesel smell in the cabin when drivin, probably because the rear hatch does not screw down - Custom engine hatch to clear the injection pump. D) one rust spot under a side window E) Squeaky front suspension bushes
Van also has a very cool Webasto-style 'Airtop style' park heater (The type of heater you can turn on independently of the van being turned on . Sips diesel and warms up the cabin very quickly and efficiently without turning the engine on!) Not a Webasto, but same style of thi
ng. If you like the color blue, you'll love this van. Blue inside and out, in at least three different shades.
Lights all work, has bigger alloy wheels to take advantage of more powerful engine and give more relaxed cruising speed .

This van is a good basis for a daily driver now, it has a small solar panel on the roof and stays charged all the tim, even when plugged into things when camping! Super cool station wagon for taking kids to school in. Dial it in and make it perfect / yours. The hard / heavy lifting has been done. I do not have the interest or motivation, I am running a business here with my land rover diesel stuff and do not have time.
I can help have this bus delivered anywhere in the USA at buyers expense. Or, you can fly in and drive it home if you like. NO GUARANTEES how far you will get though! I do not have a crystal ball.
