I purchased this van in October 2020 from the previous owner who lived in Bend, Oregon. I received it with 90,XXX miles. I hold the Pennsylvania Vehicle Title in my name. It lived most of its life in Naples, Florida. From what I have found, I am the 4th owner. Personally, I love the increased interior space and rarity of the weekender-style (Wolfsburg Edition) Westy’s. With this one being a low-mileage, well-maintained, unmolested locker Syncro, it was the one I wanted to own for a long time.
It has the original 2.1L engine and drivetrain. It is in excellent running and driving condition. I daily drove this van throughout the summer months since 2020 around town and on trips throughout the wilds of Pennsylvania.
This van has original paint (Merian Brown LA8A) with minor seam corrosion and front-end paint chips (all documented in the photos provided). It has not been exposed to winter or salted roads under my ownership and easily appears to have never been consistently subjected to those conditions. The body is in remarkable, but not perfect, condition considering its age and originality. Nothing is hidden, it is open for all to view in the detailed photos link below.
It has been maintained well, and I went over everything on the van to make it into a smooth and reliable running condition. Everything functions as it should (except the A/C, the condenser has been removed behind the front dash during radiator replacement, the interior evaporator, hoses, and compressor are intact, both A/C blower motors function as they should from the dash controls, the A/C could be restored to function if desired).
If you’re curious about anything regarding the condition of any aspect of this vehicle, just ask. I will provide all the details you need to make a thorough assessment. It drives like new and has been as reliable as any vehicle this age can be with it also being in original, unadulterated condition. This is a time capsule van that is ready for adventure or for the collector.
Here are the highlights of the maintenance and updated items involved with the van. Many of these were completed before failure and to increase the overall reliability.
From the previous owner (review receipts in Dropbox photo link for more details):
- Owners Manual and record of initial VW dealership maintenance up to 1996. Other Records cover the larger maintenance work
- Complete fuel tank resealing and fuel line replacement
- Sewfine interior (all seats and rear bench) - professionally installed (the 1986 Vanagon’s had the corduroy interior)
- Bus Depot 3-window camper top – top seals and hardware look new.
- All door seals and camper top seals look to be in good condition and/or have been replaced.
- 15” VW steel wheels with 215-75R 15 all season tires.
Work completed under my ownership (all parts have been purchased from GoWesty, VanCafe, Bus Depot, Burley Motorsports, Schwenk Springs), there are a few odd & ends that may not be mentioned, just ask if you’re curious about any aspect of the van:
- Full tune-up and confirmation of all Digifant II instruments and sensors
- ECU replaced with “D” computer
- Fuel filter replaced
- Complete refurbishing of the heater control box
- New Radiator replacement and full coolant system flush
- New Water Pump and Thermostat
- Schwenk Standard Syncro Springs & Bilstein B4 Shocks
- Burley Motorsports Complete Vanagon Bushing Kit – All Bushings replaced except trailing arm bushings (I do have the Burley bushings from the kit ready for when the time for replacement would occur)
- GoWesty High Coolant Temp / Low Coolant Volume Alarm Installed
- GoWesty Decoupler – professionally installed with real OEM Knob
- GoWesty Coolant Pipe Repair Kit – installed as preventative measure only
- GoWesty Full LED exterior light kit (LED turn signal relay and front LED turn signal resistors)
- GoWesty High Power Headlight Upgrade Kit
- GoWesty Instrument Cluster Foil Replacement Kit
- VanCafe Syncro Front & Rear Shifter Rods, Shift Selector Shaft Rebuild, Shifter Base Kit, Shift Guide
- Refurbished Air Flow Meter (Fuel Injection Corp. purchased from Bus Depot).
- Blue Sea System 7610 automatic charging relay and fuse panel installed under drivers seat for auxiliary battery charging (using the vehicles alternator). The OEM style relay system is intact, and this could be reversed for originality if desired. It currently does not have an auxiliary battery installed.
- Cory Shepherd at Specialty Gauge rebuilt the odometer/trip meter in July 2022 after the trip meter failed due to pressing it while moving. The vehicle sat during this process.
I never intended to sell this van. My wife and I just welcomed our second child. It will be hard to see this go, I know I will regret it once the kids are older.
The vehicle title will be sent to the new owner with signature-required delivery & tracking once the funds are clear.
All taxes, shipping/transport costs, and insurance (if needed) are the responsibility of the buyer. I will assist with the coordination for any pickup/transport and communicate closely with the buyer.
I am here for any and all questions about the van. I am here to be fully transparent. I am willing to discuss all reasonable offers. Let's talk and make a deal.
This van deserves a great owner who will appreciate and care for it.
Serious inquires only. No trades or consignment offers. No warranties are expressed or implied. The van is sold as-is.
