For Sale: 1956 Volkswagen Beetle Oval Window Ragtop – Horizon Blue, Full Restoration

Located in Lakewood, CO

This beautifully restored 1955 VW Beetle oval window ragtop looks and feels like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Finished in its factory-original Horizon Blue L331 (Glasurit paint, basecoat/clearcoat and then ceramic coated), the car is visually stunning … a 9 out of 10 paint job with impeccable attention to detail throughout.

The restoration was completed to match the exact factory specifications shown on its official birth certificate, which is included with the sale. That includes a fully restored navy blue interior with off-white piping and a tan headliner, all brand new from Wolfsburg West.

Even the gas tank was refinished in the correct L29 color.

Mechanical

Engine: Period-correct 36hp engine (not original to the car); starts right up and runs strong. Mileage unknown, as the engine was not rebuilt but was a known good runner.

Transmission: Rebuilt split-case transmission (non-synchro first gear), restored by Mr. Gas in Cañon City, CO … shifts smoothly.

Suspension: New shocks all around, new spring plate bushings. Original front axle; king and link pins were not replaced, but a brand-new set is included with the sale.

Braking/Steering: New drum brakes all around, including drums, cylinders, and shoes. Stops and steers just as it should. Brand-new steering wheel installed. Horn works.

Features & Details

Ragtop: Brand new material. Fully functional and smooth-operating.

Interior: Correct navy blue/off-white piping with tan headliner, matching factory spec.

Speedometer: Works, but reads a out 5mph faster than actual cruising speed at 50mph. Odometer works.

Authenticity: Every detail down to the correct pedal rubbers, trim, and finish has been done using high-quality components.

Wheels and Tires: Coker white wall tires on wheels with the original horizon blue and silver white color scheme. Matching spare under the hood.

Clean title in my name.

History

Last registered in Virginia in the 1980s, this Beetle came to me from a previous owner in Florida who had stalled on the project. I finished the full restoration with a focus on accuracy and craftsmanship. The result is a true collector-grade oval window ragtop; one that turns heads and drives as great as it looks.

Serious inquiries only, please. I’m not in a rush to sell and believe the car is priced fairly given the level of restoration and authenticity. Will listen to reasonable offers, but lowball offers will be politely ignored.

Please reach out if you would like to schedule a time to come see the car. I will take you for a drive. You can drive it when you buy it :)
