Vehicle Description

Here’s your opportunity to own a rare example of the famous Volkswagen camper from the 1970’s. This vehicle is in exceptionally good condition for its age and very little work will be required to restore it to its former glory. It will be a head turner at shows! It has been housed in a climate controlled garage for the last 30 years. It is a two owner vehicle. When the vehicle was new it was completely undercoated with rust proofing so the under structure of the vehicle is unusually sound and rust free for a vehicle that's over 50 years old.

This was the “Westphalia killer” as it slept four adults while the Westphalia camper of the era only slept 2 (and a child on cot in the pop-up). This highly unique 1972 Volkswagen camper was custom built under the direction of Volkswagen of America by Sportsmobile in Elkhart Indiana. It is a Sportsmobile Penthouse model which will sleep four adults. The Sportsmobile conversion was sold only through Volkswagen dealers throughout the US in the early '70s.

The vehicle has never been in an accident. There are several locations that have dents due to parking lot damage but structural Integrity of the vehicle is 100% Some rust around the front window but very little other normal areas of rust expected for these vehicles. Rear lower engine bay sheet metal will need to be welded back in.

Not the original engine and transmission. The engine runs, the transmission is fair. The vehicle is registered as no-op. It's not recommended to be driven without further repairs.

Comes complete with many spare parts and ** BONUS ** original free standing tent as sold by VWoA.

While somewhat drivable, it should be considered to be a restoration project and not driven on the open road until restoration is complete.
