Originally part of Japan's fire service fleet, this 1988 Toyota HiAce Pickup 4x4 was repainted red for duty and still wears that identity proudly. The exterior includes a tubular bed rack with a mesh basket and jerrycan cage, a mesh tailgate, and a tool box mounted in the bed. Up front, four off-road lights are mounted to the gray-toned bumper, while a roof-mounted light bar keeps the trail lit. It sits on powder-coated silver 15" Toyota pickup wheels wrapped in fresh 30x9.5R15 BFGoodrich KO2 tires, giving it a confident stance.
Inside, it's exactly what you'd want from a rig built to work. Blue cloth bench seating across the front row, a folding bench in the rear, and rubber flooring throughout keep it rugged and low maintenance. Auxiliary toggle switches control the lighting systems, while a CB radio with integrated PA brings a little personality. The original AM radio is still in place, and the right-hand drive layout gives it instant distinction. A floor shifter and power steering keep the control simple and direct.
Power comes from a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine with electronic fuel injection, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4x4 transfer case. A 2-inch lift has been added with torsion bar spacers, Bilstein shocks, and Energy bump stops for extra capability off pavement. It rides on an independent front suspension and leaf springs out back. Power front disc brakes handle the stopping. Locking front hubs add trail cred. OEM timing belt and accessory belts were replaced in April 2023, making this one ready to get to work.
