1962 Studebaker Lark Daytona NO RESERVE!













Vehicle Description
You are bidding on a 1962 Studebaker Lark Daytona convertible being offered with NO RESERVE. The car wears an older amateur restoration. It was factory-equipped with a six cylinder engine but currently has a Studebaker 289 V8/overdrive drivetrain. The car runs, drives and stops but should not be considered roadworthy. Actual mileage is unknown. Proceeds from sale benefit the Studebaker National Museum.
Exterior: The Daytona's paint is in fair-to-good condition. Noticeable orange-peel is present. There are some chips on the door edges, wheel arches and also around the fuel filler. The windshield has a chip at the upper driver's side corner (see pictures). Brightwork is also in fair/good condition with some flaws and dings noted. Convertible top is excellent, though fit is slightly loose around rear quarter windows.
Interior: The interior has been redone in non-authentic materials and is in excellent shape. There is a hole in the floor where it appears a floor shifter once was. Carpet shows minor wear and tear. Top well material needs finishing. Rear interior trim panels do not fit flush with door pillar. Instruments are from a 1964-1966 Studebaker. Car is fitted with an aftermarket radio (operable) and tachometer (inoperable). Switch knobs are weathered. Instrument panel has been painted to match exterior color. Under-dash wiring is visible below panel. Convertible top is operational.
Mechanical:This Daytona was originally a six-cylinder model but is now powered by a Studebaker 289 V8. Engine number is for a 1964 259 V8, but it has a 289 crankshaft and dish-top 289 pistons. Engine has aluminum R2-style water manifold and intake manifold and R3-style exhaust headers. Valve covers are engraved with "Engine by Dan Zehr." Engine carries good oil pressure at idle (see pictures). Heads are casting # 1557570. Carburetor is Carter WCFB. Transmission linkage is loose and balky and in need of adjustment/adjustment. Overdrive is operational. Rear springs have helper springs added.
Front brakes are aftermarket disc-brake conversion. Master cylinder has been updated to dual chamber unit. Rear axle is non-stock, believed to be Ford (see pictures). A rattle/vibration can be felt in steering wheel when engine is running and car not moving. Car is fitted with aftermarket musical horn, but operation is unknown.
Structural: Frame appears solid. Floor pans show rust repairs as do rocker panel and sill areas (see pictures.) Trunk floor appears solid (see pictures). Doors need adjustment - passenger door clicks on fender trim. Ballast weights in front panel are present.
