Vehicle Description

RARE 1963 Studebaker Avanti R2 powered by factory-SUPERCHARGED 289ci V8 with 3-speed automatic transmission. 1 of 1883 manufactured in 1963. This example of a supercharged R2 was known to be the fastest production car of its time! We recently rescued this car from where it had been sitting up since 2020 due to an illness that fell upon the previous owner. This Avanti R2 is a true survivor, sporting its original paint and interior. While the car is still beautiful, the paint is old and beginning to show its age, some might consider it to need a respray unless you wanted to roll with the original survivor look! Body is straight without any major issues with the fiberglass exterior. Interior is clean factory red, starting to show some wear but definitely not terrible as seen in pics. Lights work, radio doesn’t seem to come on. 3 spd automatic transmission shifts well, we did have to add about a quart of fluid from it sitting up. Previous owner installed new brake lines, a rebuilt booster, dual master cylinder, and Turner disc units up front. 61K miles on the odometer. The Paxton-supercharged 289ci V8 was rebuilt in 2018 with a .030" overbore, turned crank, tri-metal bearings, hypereutectic pistons, and a performance camshaft. The heads were fitted with new stainless steel valves, bronze valve guides, and modern positive seals. Port matching and other machine performed. The distributor was rebuilt and the fuel tank removed and cleaned at the time of rebuild. The fuel pump and rebuilt carburetor also received new ethanol resistant kits. The frame and hog troughs are solid and in great shape. The rubbers on front suspension are old and dry but the car does come with a new set of upper and lower control arms that could be put under the car. Tires are old from sitting up over the last few years but do hold air. Does have a pretty decent power steering leak from one of the hoses at steering box as well as a small exhaust leak. I do have a walk around video I can send if needed. Sold with Clean Tx title. While the car does run and drive it is still a 60 year old car that’s been sitting up for a few years. I’d recommend trailering it home until it was gone over thoroughly to ensure all the kinks have been worked before putting her on a road trip. No reserve auction, high bidder wins! Buyer responsible for pickup or shipping. I can assist with transporting the car for around $2 a mile if desired. Located in Bogata Tx. Please email or text 903-219-7412 with any questions before bidding. $500 deposit due within 24 hours of auction end with remainder of payment due within 3 days of auction end, preferably bank wire transfer or cash. Thanks and happy bidding!
