Vehicle Description

1936 Rolls Royce 20/25

Chassis GBK54

Original Registration CXD844

One-off “Closed Cabriolet” coachwork by Park Ward

One of the last 20/25’s to be produced.

The Car was ordered 3rd of December, 1935 by Maisie Thomas to be fitted with coachwork by Park Ward

This Coachwork isone-off or one of a kind. The coachworkhas been called several different names in different publications. Closed Cabriolet, 2D2L Fixed Head Coupe’ (2 door, 2 Light (windows), Victoria Coupe' and Foursome Coupe’.

More importantly, it is known as “Maisie Thomas” after the first owner. There are pictures from RROC referencing the car as Maisie. In the ‘60’s and ‘70’s the car was well known within RROC circles and toured in many events.

Some of the publications referencing the car:

  • Those Elegant Rolls-Royces, Lawrence Dalton
  • Rolls-Royce 20/25, Tom C. Clarke
  • Park Ward, The Innovative Coachbuilder, Malcolm Tucker
  • Coachwork On Rolls-Royce, James Taylor

It is unclear when the car ultimately left Maisie Thomas’s ownership, but some of the linage is as follows:

1936 Maisie Thomas

Mr. Paddon

1960 Mills B. Lane Jr. (who extensively restored the car)

1965 Miss G. Fearing

Bob Fithian

1969 Dr. P.J. Naples

1990 Previous Owner

The car drives and stops well. It has good oil pressure and starts instantly. It runs cool.

It wears older paintwork but is acceptable for a daily driver. The brightwork is also the same condition. The speedo is a bit erratic.

The interior was restored in the ‘60’s but in decent condition. The woodwork is good but has some cracking in the finish. To my knowledge, everything is operational.

The car has most of its original tools:

Hand Crank

Ace Spanner for wheels

A few wrenched

Valve spring tool

Wheel Nut Wrench

Jack Handle and Extension.

Some of the work that has been done over the past year:

Fuel tank and lines have been cleaned

Autovac System rebuilt

Brake Servo rebuilt

Carburetor rebuilt

New Tires
