Vehicle Description

During the height of the Disco Era, Porsche became a symbol of the young, upwardly mobile professional class, known as Yuppies. Even beyond the 3-series BMW, the Porsche was really a sign that you belonged to the upper class.

This is a 3 owner car from new. We are selling for the current owner who purchased the car from Isringhausens Porsche Imports on 12/1993 with 45,843 miles. At that itme the car had benifiteted from a respray and Martini stripes were added. The engine had also been upgraded prior to purchased with a/c removed for larger air cleaner and turbos. All original parts are included with purchase.

4 months and 1000 miles later the engine developed a noise and was taken back to the Porsche dealer where they rebuilt the motor with new pistons, jugs, rings, engine seals, upgraded chain tensioners, upgraded value covers and resealed the crankcase. We have a receipt in hand.

We have additional receipts totaling over $24,000.00 for additional work over the years. For instance, a transmission rebuild in 2011, wheel bearings in 2008, new clutch in 2002 at 61XXX. Exhaust upgraded in 1998, most work was done by Porsche specialist Rein Vann here in St. Louis. Current mileage on the car is 75,300 and is actual.

The Porsche certificate of authenticity from June 1995 shows engine and transmission numbers, which are matching to the car. Optional equipment included, limited slip diff, electric passenger mirror, foil stone gauges, leather sport seats, leather sports steering wheel, black headliner, and sunroof. (inop)

This is a wonderful driving 930 Turbo that has been loved and maintained over the years. All original parts (pictured) comes with the car.

This example, made in Stuttgart, West Germany, is dressed in Grand Prix White (code R4). The paint and trim are in overall excellent order as expected for a car that has been loved and cared for since 1993. The car has Hella headlights. This Porsche has foil stone guards on the body and a 'tea-tray' rear wing spoiler. This is one of approximately 450 examples that were exported to the United States in 1978. It was originally purchased on July 27, 1978 with 35 miles on the clock.

This 930 rolls on 205/55 VR16 tires in front and 225/50 VR16 tires in back. Each one is mounted to a Fuchs alloy wheel. The tires and wheels are all in very good condition. This car rides on an 89.5-inch wheelbase.

Out back is the rear-mounted 3.3L turbocharged flat six-cylinder engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and an air-to-air intercooler (930/61). Backing this motor is a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential (code M220). Driver convenience feature include: a power passenger sideview mirror, headlight washers, rear defroster, rear wiper, intermittent front wipers and a sunroof.

Inside is a black leather interior (code 68) with leather sports seats and a matching three-spoke leather steering wheel. A black headliner is included along with VDO gauges.

Porsche made its first and most significant changes to the 930 for 1978 model year, enlarging the engine bore by two mm to a total displacement of 3.3L and adding an air-to-air intercooler. By cooling the pressurized air charge, the intercooler helped increase power output to 296 horsepower and 304 lbsft of torque; the rear 'whale tail' spoiler was re-profiled and raised slightly to make room for the intercooler and the spoiler was now infamously called the 'tea tray' spoiler by the enthusiasts. The suspension benefitted from new anti-roll bars, firmer shock absorbers and larger diameter rear torsion bars. Porsche also upgraded the brakes to units similar to those used on the company's 917 race car. While the increase in displacement and addition of an intercooler increased power output and torque, these changes also increased the weight of the vehicle, especially the engine, which contributed to a substantial change in the handling and character of the car compared to the earlier 3-liter models.

Documentation includes a Porsche leather binder; Porsche Certificate of Authenticity; original owner's manual, original warranty and maintenance manual; original Blaupunkt radio service manual; Alpine stereo owner's manual; original maintenance records; autoradio tech diagrams; assorted maintenance and repair invoices and receipts; and dynamometer results.

Competition to this Porsche 930 in 1978 included Chevrolet's Corvette, Datsun's 280Z, Ferrari's 308GTS and Toyota's then-new Celica Supra.
