A LOW-MILEAGE, fully documented car from new: This 160 was purchased new from T.B. McGuire Packard Inc. In Ridgewood, New Jersey on June 10, 1941.The original owner, Emil S. Halter, drove the car sparingly and when purchased by the second owner in Paterson, New Jersey on June 6, 1984, it had clocked just 22,363 miles. The third owner in Severn, Maryland purchased the car on September 26, 2005, with 32,850 miles. The fourth (current) owner in Tualatin, Oregon purchased the car on September 28, 2018, with 39,200 miles on the odometer. Today, it shows 45,455 miles which is believed to be correct from new.
The 1941 Super 8 160 featured Packard’s 356 cubic inch, 160 horsepower straight 8 engine, with 9 main bearings and hydraulic valve lifters for smooth power at all speeds. Nicknamed “The soft-spoken boss of the road,” it was more powerful than Cadillac’s 150 horsepower V8. The 160’s were among the last “Senior” Packards to feature running boards and dual side-mounted spare tires, keeping the classic styling that would be gone after WWII. This car is a model 1904, on the longer 138-inch wheelbase, affording back seat passengers extra room and comfort. Finished in Packard “Laguna Maroon” the body, paint and chrome trim are in excellent condition, testament to its pampered, low-mileage life. This Packard has appeared in two major motion pictures:“The Good Shepherd” (2006) with Robert DeNiro and Matt Damon.“My One and Only” (2009) with Kevin Bacon and Renée Zellwegger.

The engine starts easily and runs smoothly with excellent power. 3-speed manual transmission shifts crisply. The car tracks well on the road and with the 3.91:1 rear end it easily cruises at 60 mph and keeps up with modern freeway traffic. Comfortable at 60 mph. Brakes stop smooth and straight. All lights work including turn signals. All gauges work. Wipers, radio and clock do not function at present. Fuel gauge shows lower level than is actually in the tank (when gauge is on “E” it has approximately 5 gallons left in the tank.) Working under-seat heater and windshield defroster to warm the car on chilly days.
