Vehicle Description

1948 Packard - In 1948 Packard won the Insustrial Design Award for its innovative design, streamlined shape that enhanced aerodynamics andadvanced engineering techniques for its time. The win solidified Packard's reputation as a leader in automotive design.
This 1948 Packard Super Eight Victoria Convertible, # 653, is one of the first cars off the line, produced in late 1947. Originally ordered by a doctor from Phialdelphia, with a 'station car' interior, this car retains it's rare slide vent controls, and chrome glove box cover usually found on the Custom Eight models. Purchased then by Don Rook from the doctor's family, and added to his vast car collection, it has had a storied past, supposedly touring all across the United States. The third owner, Andy Rosen, owned the car from 1977 to 1992, eventually finidng its way into the hands of Burt Schwait, who had the car restored in the late 1990's, completing the restoration in 2000. It was garaged in his vacation home on Long Beach Island, NJ, until I purchased the car from Burt's widow in 2012. The car sat dusty and covered with blankets, on blocks, but I could see it was a gem. Once the gas tank was drained, new points and battery added, then filled with fresh gas, the car fired right up.
I have enjoyed this wonderful piece of automotive history since then, doing minor maintenance, oil changes, etc. The car has power windows, power Haartz cloth top, and power seat. The paint is beautiful, but does have a few minor scuffs and nicks. The interior is perfect. The conv. top is beautiful, with detailed painted bows, and the power unit was rebuiilt by Hydro E Lectric in Florida. In 2016 I had the chrome redone, triple plated, by Frankford Plating in Philly. It is gorgeous and shines brightly. Last year I replaced the tires with 5 new General Dual 90's whitewalls. They have less than 500 miles on them. The trans is a W9 three speed w/ overdrive enabling this car to cruise effortlessly at highway speeds.
These cars are super rare, and this is one of the best you will ever see. A car that is a star at any car show or cruise, that runs and shifts like a Packard should. This car will not dissappoint. It comes with a complete binder with all receipts from the restoration, and from my ownership, plus a complete set of rare repair manuals. Call Dennis with any questions 201-306-8530.
