1964 GTO Convertible 4 speed 389 4 BBL. Marimba Red / Black *Original Unrestored
Vehicle Description
1964 GTO Convertible 4 speed. 4 barrel Marimba Red / Black Interior & Top. You could pretty much consider this a "Barn Find".....
This is a very good project car and perfect candidate for restoration.
I bought this from the original over 10 years ago.Only 2 things are not original to car. The Engine Block and the Deck lid. The Engine Block was replaced by original owner at some point with a 1965 389 Block but all the other parts on engine heads, intake, carb, distributor, alternator, fan are all original to car. Muncie M-20 is original to car. 3:23 open axle is original to car. Deck lid was replaced, (story from wife is husband backed car out of garage when he was working on it and deckled went up and hit garage door tweaking it.) The one on it now is very nice. I have run this motor on a marine gas can and drove a short distance on property to confirm the trans shifted well. Brakes go to floor most likely due to bad master cylinder. I have since put a new gas tank and sending unit in car. Nothing frozen on brakes as it pushes around very easily. What you see here is all original paint. Some areas had been sanded down and repaired and put in red primer by original owner. Lower quarters behind wheels have been worked on have show evidence of some "filler" in the normal spots at the very lower rear quarters. A 3 piece trunk floor was installed. but still shows the seams so this area would need to be finished. I purchased car from the Wife after original owner passed away. Best I could tell this car sat for about 25 years prior to me getting it. Doors and fenders look very clean and solid. Hood has some repair on very front edge. Floors are very solid with some corrosion next to the outer seat belt mounting locations other than that the floors are very solid. Have many photos that I can send but ask that only very interested parties request them. Frame has the usual Rust flaking and scale but appears solid with no bad or “rotted” areas. Still has the original Spiral Shocks on it. Around the front window is rust free with exception of lower area on pass side where is does have a small amount of rust thru. I removed trim to inspect and photograph and put trim back on. Again, I have photos of all of this. All the Glass including the windshield are original to car and date coded. All appears very nice with no bad scratches. The interior is all original. Dash and gauges are excellent. This is an original WOOD Steering Wheel car and believe it or not the wheel is the nicest I have ever seen. No Cracks and near perfect. This alone is a rare and expensive piece. Seats are original and while covers are torn up front the frames are in excellent condition. The Console and shifter are original and in excellent condition. The Convertible Top Frame is rust free and in excellent condition. All the power top components are intact. The Bumpers (some of the hardest to find in the Pontiac World) are very nice. Clean, Straight and no rust. All of the trim is there and all in great shape. Some of it is off the car but it is all there. Front Grills are near mint and Hood Scoops are super nice. Steel Wheels are clean and original to car. Spinner style Custom Wheel covers are in great shape and original to car.
This car is such a perfect candidate for restoration since it is not a “basket case” or a car in “boxes”. This means everything is there and you get to see how it comes apart and what each part is. No mysteries to solve. This is a major time saver on a restoration.
Options are Push Button Radio, Dual Speed Wipers, Back Up Lamps, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Custom Wheel Discs, Custom Sports Wheel, Console, Standard 3:23 axle, M20 Wide Ratio Trans, 7.50/14 Red Line Tires.
I have and am restoring many Pontiacs currently and this one will never make it into the rotation for me so I have decided to let it go as I have many cars that are ahead of it. I am confident in my description and feel I can answer any questions. Nothing to hide. My best scenario is to have a potential buyer come and inspect car in person so they can get a real feeling of this car. Car is located in Romeo Michigan and in an area where is is easy to inspect. This is not a absolute must but I want both parties to be happy with this transaction. Again, a GREAT perfect candidate for restoration. A car that if done right won’t leave you under water. Always start with a good foundation and everything else works out. A first year “REAL” 1964 GTO Convertible 4 speed car in Marimba Red and Black Interior? This is top of the food chain. I have some really good paperwork as well.
Older PHS Documents / Billing Manifest, Original Dealer Invoice from Glen Pontiac in Detroit Michigan, Original Order Form and Original Title. Car is currently in my name on a Michigan Title. A great Car / Project for somebody. Same Time and Money and buy a complete original car versus a car in pieces or worse yet, missing pieces.
Please fell free to Inquire with any questions but preferably only if you really have interest. This car is pretty easy to see the condition in the photos. I have about 175 photos total in a DropBox. Thanks for your interest.
