1985 Volkswagen Campmobile

Vehicle Description
The 3 years that I have owned this van I can definitely vouch that this van makes people happy! When I am driving it people wave, give peace signs, even stop their cars dead in their tracks to watch it go by! Every fill up at the gas station turns into a conversation.
Selling this because of a recently diagnosed illness the prevents me from doing my own work on it. It has been by hobby project for the last couple of years.
The bad: IT HAS A TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK FROM THE TANSAXLE BELL HOUSING SO BID ACCORDINGLY.
Now for all the good news…
Engine: A recently professionally installed Ford Zetec Bostig conversion with 120,000 miles but new timing belt, and water pump. Runs nice and zippy and exceptionally reliable. You should expect to get many more miles on this engine. Parts are inexpensive and easy to find. MPG about 16. Fuel filter replaced. Has a very nice engine monitor computer system that helps you keep track of how smoothly the engine is running (worth $500. See picture).
Transmission/transaxle: 3 Speed Automatic. Shifts smoothly and correctly. Has a significant fluid leak from the bell housing, and will need to be removed, repaired or replaced. Could be driven a short distance, but will need to be trailered to destination.
Power Steering: Replaced with NEW OEM rack and pinion and pump. Works great.
Muffler: Cracked and rusty. Needs to be replaced. New replacement muffler included, but the crack makes her sound righteous.
Dash: Rebuilt original Speedometer and cable. Works perfectly. Gauges, clock, lights work. Sony radio CD player with 4 speakers. New dash mat. Rebuilt windshield washer fluid system including tank, motor, hoses and spray nozzles.
Brakes: Upgraded front disk and drum rear breaks in good working order.
A/C has been removed. (The originals didn’t even work well for long)
Wheels: Upgraded custom wheels, and high profile tires.
Interior: In great condition for its age. Includes the extra seat that can be removed, and the track covers. Front seats swivel.
Body: Numerous small dings, scrapes and some rust on the passenger side rear from a leaking rear window washer reservoir. Yet people often comment that it looks “new”. This has been a Kansas vehicle all of its life. All windows and doors work nicely. Upgraded LED front and rear lights. Side lights are still conventional. Upgraded front and back bumpers with trailer hitch and wiring. Rear tire rack. Upgraded Range Rover mirrors.
Electrical system: Significantly upgraded in many ways. Two 100 Ah Lithium Fe batteries added. Built in battery charger, and solar panel with AC to DC charger. Automatic battery switch over. Two DC outlet add which include extra USB outlets. You can expect to run all your personal digital stuff, plus an modern efficient 12 cooler from the this van.
Camping features: Sink and stove work. Stove is fueled by a 5 lb propane tank under cabinet. Faucet upgraded an works with either campsite hook ups or internal 15 gal water tank. Table can attach either front or rear. Top tent replaced last year and includes three windows for ventilation. Top vent replaced with new, but needs the lifter replaced to function better. Side awning is in good condition.
Heat: It has a diesel cabin heater! Which we love and used frequently.
Cooling: A small oscillating fan over the bed keeps us cool during sweaty Kansas nights. Includes window screens. Front, side door with zipper for entry, rear hatch.
Extra Stuff: Besides a new muffler, there are rear bearings, an extra engine computer preprogrammed by Bostig (you don’t want this to fail on your van when you are in the boonies), a new diesel tank for the heater with a corner fill spout (the one installed fills from the top, and has to be filled carefully or you will have a mess), and a box full of goodies including lights mirrors, oil pan guard, and other surprises.
Really cool stuff: It has a leather tool storage panel accessible from the rear hatch. The memories and pictures we made with her during trips to Minnesota, Colorado, Florida, Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.
Happy bidding, and if you win, take good care of her.
