Vehicle Description

1928 Whippet CoupeModel 96 4 CylinderStarts, runs, drives, and stops.Registration is up to date and has a clear California title.
Willys aggressive advertising campaign de-emphasized Willys-Overland and emphasized the Whippet brand, selling the idea that here was a new and different kind of car. Willys envisioned “Whippet-class” as a new category of American automobile. Developed by W-O chief engineer A.J. Baker, the Whippet Model 96 offered a tidy 100.6-inch wheelbase, four-wheel brakes, and a four-cylinder, 134.2-cubic inch engine with full oil pressure and 30 horsepower. Styling was a mix of American and European, with a decidedly Fiat-like radiator shell.
Sportier than the Ford or a Chevy models, with newer styling, more standard equipment, and an attractive price, the Whippet was an immediate hit. Popular was the new Finger-Tip Control, which placed starting, lighting, and horn in a single knob in the steering wheel hub. Willys-Overland sales rocketed up to 315,000 cars in 1928,trailing only Ford and Chevrolet motor company.
The 134ci 4 Cylinder fires right up and doesn't miss or smoke.Factory 3 speed manual transmission shifts through the gears as it should.Headlights, taillight, brake light, and horn functioning.Doors, trunk and hood fit well, opening and closing as they should.Crank our windshield, cowl vent, and side windows all functional.Extreme solid original body. I've never seen a 1928 of any make this dry.I see no body rot or "bubbling" under the paint, and no evidence of any rust repair/major body work.Wooden spoke wheels are solid but the tires should be replaced if you are doing any touring vs parading.Good battery.Clear CA TitleCurrent Ca RegistrationOdometer reads 2,162 miles. It is unknown if this mileage is original but it would be hard to believe the car has seen 102k milesVehicle is located in Sacramento CA 95811.If you have any questions or want to come see it in person feel free to send me a message.
