Vehicle Description

1961 Metropolitan Series IV Hardtop in Berkshire Green and Frost White exterior with classic, houndstooth black and white interior, that has been lovingly ($$$) refreshed, is in excellent condition and is ready to go!She looks great. Starts, runs, shifts and stops great. Rare and desirable options were diligently sought out and expertly installed, with tamper proof screws/bolts where necessary. This last generation, Series IV of Mets also features the following factory improvements and upgrades: Wrap Around Rear Window, Locking Trunk Lid, Windwings, and Locking Glove Box Door. The Austin 1500 In-Line 4 Cylinder engine that is paired with a "3 on the Tree" manual transmission runs great and gets great gas mileage too. It has numerous upgrades including a new Weber ICH 34 carburetor, a spin on oil filter adapter, an upgraded timing chain cover with rubber gasket that eliminated the leaky felt gasket, a rebuilt fuel pump, a new water pump and a new inline fuel filter. The new Weber Carburetor works GREAT! Huge improvement over the original Zenith. And a new, heavy duty marine battery provides plenty of cold starting power. This Metropolitan comes equipped with new White Wall tires and OEM chrome hubcaps with the distinctive "M" logo. An additional (originally they only came with one on the passenger side) "Metropolitan" script medallion on the driver's side. A chrome Continental Kit, an ultra-rare "Metropolitan Auto Center, Inc., La Brea, L.A." License Plate Frame, vintage style outside rearview mirrors (VERY useful) and unobtanium (also VERY useful!) back-up lights. A rare, original, stamped George Petty Flying Goddess hood ornament and an original Metropolitan Owners Club medallion, also very rare, up front completes the fully optioned look of this vintage classic.See list below for complete list of New and Vintage parts. All glass is in excellent condition.
