Vehicle Description

The car in these photographs is a 1965 MGB convertible. It has the standard 1.8 L engine and a four-speed manual transmission with no overdrive. The previous owner purchased the car in 1985 and it was held in their family until I bought the car in October 2010. I have driven the car for less than 3,000 miles since I’ve owned it; mostly on short half day trips. I don not know how many times the odometer has turned over. When I the car it was not running. It was trailered from the seller’s home in Nevada to my home in the Los Angeles area. The previous owner noted in the online “for sale” advertisement that the engine had less than 10,000 miles on it since a rebuild and that a new windshield had also been installed, along with a dash cover. It had also been converted to negative ground, including the tach. Additionally, the front suspension components had been replaced. After purchasing the car, I installed a new gas tank, fuel pump and sending unit, and gave it a tune up, cleaned the carbs, did an oil filter change, put in a new battery, and got it running. During the remainder of the restoration process, part of the driver’s floor pan was replaced. The passenger floor plan did not need replacement, as the rust was very minimal and not intrusive. April 2014, the car underwent a complete body restoration and paint job. No new major body parts were used. All chrome trim and other exterior components were purchased new and installed. This included the headlight bezels, windshield wiper bezels, and pretty much any chrome that was on the car. All exterior bulbs (except headlights), surrounds, lenses and gaskets, and the compartment surround have been replaced. During the time I owned it I: replaced the brake pads and shoes all the way around, replaced the brake and clutch master cylinders and clutch slave cylinder and hose. A third brake light (LED) was installed above the license plate. New rear springs and professionally rebuilt rear lever shocks. A new three-quarter inch anti-sway bar was professionally installed. The generator was taken off the car and the brushes were replaced. The starter was professionally rebuilt. The transmission was removed and professionally disassembled, inspected and a new lay shaft installed along with the input shaft and other seals. No other work was necessary. At the same time, I replaced the clutch disc, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, and bronze spigot bushing. All of the engine gaskets except the oil pan and seal were replaced and a new aluminum water pump was installed. The engine assembly and related components were painted before being reinstalled. The oil cooler lines and coolant lines were also replaced. Mazda Miata seats (with covers) and three point seatbelts were installed (although they have faded from their original black) along with new carpet and vinyl trim. The original seats and mounting hardware are included with this car. A new oil pressure/water temperature gauge and under hood oil flex line were installed. I also replaced the original style gasoline cap with a locking cap (both are included). Approximately two years ago I put in new plugs, wires and rotor and installed new carb floats and seats. There is a Panasonic AM/FM radio and CD/USB player in the dash and its remote. A thermostatically operated electric fan was installed by the previous owner and is in good working order. I have receipts for nearly every portion of the restoration. The radio antenna mounted in the fender was left off, as were the front bumper guards. Both of these were intentional to give the car a little cleaner look. Also included are the parts and pieces needed to install a new convertible top. I never installed one because in Southern California the only time I drove the car was in nice weather and really didn’t feel it was necessary. The original seats are in decent condition and are included along with the mounting hardware should the purchaser want a more original look. Other included items—original SU fuel pump, MGB shop manual and new air cleaners and a few new gaskets. New 175/70-14 Kumho tires and tubes were installed in 2017. This MG runs very strong and reliably . Again, it does not have a convertible top but comes with all the parts needed to install a new one The original seats and hardware are included. It is a real joy to own and drive. The most recent oil and filter change was about 10 months ago. There are 3 paint blemishes. The worst is some cracking around the trunk lid octagon. The other 2 are on the hood. I have done my best to describe this vehicle accurately with detailed photos, but it is a used, classic vehicle, sold as-is, with no warranty. Happy to answer any questions.
