1972 Mercury Cougar XR-7 hardtop

Vehicle Description
Up for consideration is this 1972 Mercury Cougar XR7, a classic embodiment of American automotive design and engineering, straight from the Dearborn assembly line. This vintage gem stands out with its vibrant gold exterior, a color that turns heads wherever it goes. Under the hood, the Cougar XR7 is powered by a robust, upgraded and rebuilt 351 Cleveland V8 engine, delivering the kind of performance that made this model a favorite among car enthusiasts. The FMX automatic transmission ensures a smooth and effortless driving experience, making it a pleasure to cruise down the road or navigate through city streets. On the outside, you'll first notice the black faux hood scoop that gives this cat a little meaner appearance than most. The newer chocolate brown vinyl top is in excellent condition and adds a bit of luxury appearance to the exterior of this car. This car turns heads and I've gotten plenty of thumbs up while driving around, she looks and sounds good. All of the lights work as they should and the sequential turn signals in back perform flawlessly. All lighting, inside and out, has been upgraded to much brighter LED bulbs, to include instrument panel lighting. The Cougar is quite different from the Mustang in the realm of styling and for 1972, the two platform shared cars split further apart in theory and style. Leading the way is the adopted from other Mercury vehicles split grille treatment with a prominent center section and waterfall style grille. In a break from the previous generation, 4 exposed headlights replace the hidden headlights of yore. At the rear, inset into the bumper are trim highlighted sequential tail lights. Rust is nonexistent and the gaps remain well minded. Chrome bumpers and all trim retains its shine and shows very little wear. Dual exhausts peek out the back at the bottom of the chassis. Cue the cat growling.
Step inside and you'll be greeted by a rich brown leather interior, offering a touch of luxury and comfort that complements the car's exterior. The leather seats provide a comfortable ride for both the driver and passengers, while the inclusion of seatbelts ensures safety is a priority. The cabin is equipped with the original factory Ford AM/FM stereo radio (that has been rebuilt and upgraded with modern electronics to include Bluetooth and handsfree calling) to keep the interior looking stock. You can even play your music from your phone through this radio, allowing occupants to enjoy their favorite tunes or stay updated with the latest news as they travel.Additionally, all of the factory gauges work properly as well.
Underneath the hood, the power steering allows for easy maneuvering, making driving more enjoyable, while the power front disc/rear drum brakes contribute to a secure and confident driving experience. The mechanicals have been upgraded to include an aluminum radiator with attached transmission cooler and dual electric fans for this kitty's optimum cooling, electronic ignition along with Edelbrock intake and brand new Edelbrock four barrel carb. This car originally came equipped with air conditioning but was removed at some point. The controls, venting and ductwork are still there if you wish to add A/C back onto this vehicle.
Out back is an FMX three-speed automatic transmission which sends power to a Ford 9-inch rear end. The rear axle was originally a 2.75 ratio but has had new gears installed prior to my ownershipso she does rev a little higher while cruising but that, along with the Flowmasters in the back, create an unmistakable growl that makes all gearheads turn their heads while cruising around town. A strong heart for this kitty.
This combination of features underscores the thoughtful design and attention to detail that went into crafting this remarkable vehicle. This 1972 Mercury Cougar XR7 is not just a car, it's a statement of style and performance that continues to resonate with those who appreciate classic American muscle car excellence.
