1971 MERCURY COUGAR XR7 GT (GT tribute)

1971 Mercury Cougar XR7 GT tribute (unrestored survivor). 315C upgraded with Edelbrock intake and Holly QFT 600cfm, headers and Flowmasters. I believe the heads were ported. FMX with shift kit. All engine and tranny work done by previous owner. I estimate it to be the same as CJ or better performance (about 300hp). I upgraded most of the front and rear suspension with GT springs and premium components including upper and lower control arms, idler arm and KYB shocks all around. So she sits 1" lower now and handles better than new. The steering box was also replaced due to a leak. New fuel tank, starter, alternator, regulator, water pump and thermostat. All the upgrades make it a GT tribute so I put the GT emblems on it. I've never heard of a XR7 GT so that makes this fun car very unique. It looks great inside and out but is a daily driver. It has factory air but does not blow cold and only needs the freon conversion. A previous owner repainted the car the original color prior to 2012, there are a number of blemishes but nothing bad. It runs and handles great and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. It needs some cosmetic work. The rear bumper needs re-chrome, the vinyl roof needs replaced, top has numerous bumps but nothing soft, a couple small blisters on rear passenger fender lip. Also I saw a 1/8' hole in the cowl. I repainted the rear interior panels but the console could use a refresh too which I have paint for. Thats it. It's a great fun car and i hate to let it go. I spent all my money on it and lost 40% of my income. So I can keep it and thoroughly enjoy it as is or pass it on to someone that can fix the few things it needs. I purchased this car in Connecticut in 2021 and have spent about $10k in upgrades and replaced worn/old parts. I love this car and hate to sell it but lost 40% of my income, which leave me nothing to put into the car. :(. Please note this is not a GT clone, it is a original factory XR7 that I added GT or equivalent components to.
