1972 was the first year of this body style, and R107 chassis of the 280,350,380,450 and 560SLs was one of the longest running production bodies in the Diamler-Benz AG's line.
1972-1973 Mercedes 450SL’s are becoming next highly collectible SL after the pricey and very famous W113 280SL Pagoda Mercedes!! Part of what makes them so desirable to Collectors and Mercedes enthusiasts is the increased U.S. emissions and safety requirements starting in 1974 causing later models to be fitted with special crash bumpers and emissions control systems resulting in reduced overall look, performance and horse-power. Beside more powerful engine, this beauty also features more elegant European style “short” bumpers, steel wheels with Mercedes-Benz hubcaps and this winning combination makes this SL look absolutely stunning!
Now that the W113 230/250/280SL's have become priced out of sight, here comes the early 450SL. As recently as the mid 1990's, and early 2000’s you could pick up a nice condition 1971 280SL Pagoda Roadster for around $25,000. Body is very straight, and all doors, hood, and trunk are operating with ease, with everything lining up as it should.
Factory VIN # stamping on the front radiator support is another sign of originality of this car.
This SL comes with both soft top, and the hard top! Black Canvas Soft top is in great condition, and it is very easy to operate. Back Plastic windows are nice and clear!
Hard top is also in excellent condition, including the headliner and all original Sekurit glass.
Original owner’s manual and the tool set are present!
