MB W108 250SE 1967 manual 4-speed column shift ; well maintained w/ full history

Vehicle Description
Mercedes-Benz W108 250SE 1967 with manual 4 speed column shift
Very well-maintained classic car with clean interior, rebuilt engine and documented history from 1967 to 2025
I purchased this car in 2017 from the second owner, who had it for 10 years. The first owner (a doctor) owned it for 40 years and had it meticulously maintained. I have all records from new, including brochures, purchase invoice from MB in Germany, shipping documents etc. and all maintenance receipts, everything chronologically sorted in a 4-inch binder.
I have spent north of $15,000 total on rebuilding the engine, new parts and metal repair (all receipts available). It is the classic story of overspending because I just like the car too much. It runs so well and the classic style, four-on the-tree, original interior with original radio, white steering wheel and strong fuel-injected engine reminds me so much of the time when cars were beautiful and well-built at MB.
When I bought the car, it was mechanically in very good shape and had a respray before the first owner sold the car in 2007. The respray has some flaws in it. Bodywork is appropriate for age of car. The car had some serious non-structural rust on the bottom, which I had to have repaired (welded) by a body shop. I also had the engine pulled and rebuilt/resealed by a MB-mechanic because of gaskets leaks.
The following has been done/replaced during my ownership (all receipts available):
- 2017: complete engine pull to rebuild and overhaul; full reseal, new gaskets, linkage rods, timing chain set, belts etc.
- 2017-2022: Replaced: brake master cylinder, water pump, power steering lines, starter, rear brake calipers, clutch master, slave cylinder, front and rear wheel bearings, all filters, resealed power steering pump, muffler, battery, front brake rotors, pads and wheel bearings, rebuilt distributor, ignition coil, condenser, rotor, cap, points. Radiator repaired/resoldered
- 2018: Welding repairs: OEM spare tire well left, rust holes in bottom (non-structural)
I bought the car in 2017 with 231,579 miles and had the engine rebuilt. Mercedes had the short block replaced under warranty at 75,000 miles in 1974. Today, it has 235,034 miles on the odometer.
Interior: MBTex #114 Light Natural with brown accents interior. Interior is complete, very clean and original with no rips, no worn seats. Floor carpets have light wear. Wood is in excellent condition. No cracks in dash. Original and working radio. All gauges, clock and lights work. Heater and fan work well and all heater levels are functioning. Crank windows. Headliner doesn’t sag and isn’t damaged but has two small, discolored spots in the rear.Car has Thermo King airco, added by MB dealer in 1969. Airco works but not ice-cold.
Exterior: the car is in the original MB DB #460 color “Dunkelrotbraun” or maroon red with a nice shine. Resprayed around 2007 but has paint flaws in couple areas. No visible rust but 3 doors do have rust in bottoms (I acquired 3 rust-free replacement doors that come with the car!). Rockers have been replaced under first ownership and is noticeable. Welding work has been done on some bottom places and spare tire well bottom in trunk (left) where there was rust or holes. Don’t expect perfection. At one time in the seventies, the first owner car had chrome trim attached to the wheel arches and when removed, rust was found at the attachment points. As a result, the rivets were removed and wheel rims reconditioned.Chrome work is in great shape, no damage and very shiny.
The car runs very well and everything works as it should. I drive the car regularly on a sunny weekend day and enjoy the quality and classic style of a Mercedes Benz from the sixties. I trust the car for long drives; I drove it on some multi-day summer trips over 1,000 miles without any hiccup.
