Vehicle Description

Looking to sell my 1986 2.3-16v Manual with ~145k miles in decent condition.Clean California title in hand, but failed smog last year and not currently tagged. Failed smog for running lean, turned out there was an exhaust bolt missing. I recently replaced the lambda sensor but feels like the car needs some adjustment to get it running right again. Selling because I spend more time looking at it than driving it… I’ve probably put only a few hundred miles in the 4+ years of ownership.Pros:

  • Was repainted at some point by a prior owner and looks to be a fairly decent paint job.
  • Had a full check-up with Dyllon at Rennbereit, he installed a new ECU, potentiometer, adjusted fuel pressures, checked valve lash clearances, etc.
  • Replaced dash to one without any crack
Modifications:
  • Recently installed a Fließen exhaust, and sounds fantastic (I no longer have the OEM exhaust)
  • Aftermarket Compomotive TH1781 wheels (I have the OEM Gullideckel wheels)
  • Lowering H&R Springs on the stock SLS with no leaks (I have the OEM springs)
  • Retrimmed vintage Recaro LXBs (I have the OEM seats in good condition; primarily swapped out since the driver seat motor started functioning intermittently)
  • Aftermarket Momo steering wheel (I have the OEM steering wheel)
Cons
  • Failed smog for running lean; previously passed smog two times under my ownership
  • Timing belt should be replaced soon, starting to fray a bit. I have a replacement belt, but haven't changed it
  • Slight rust under rear spoiler, and some surface rust under brake booster (still solid metal)
  • Airconditioning does not work. I brought it to a Mercedes specialist, they switched it to R134 and it was working for a while but only when the heater was on… defeating the purpose of Airconditioning
  • Driver side door lock cylinder is broken and doesn’t actuate the vacuum locking system. The trunk and passenger locks do properly lock the car
  • Sunroof is inoperable, I’m pretty sure the cable that runs from the sunroof to the trunk snapped somewhere along the way
  • Stereo is currently uninstalled. The car previously had an aftermarket stereo installed and it worked, but I removed the old system, put the OEM one in but never plugged anything in, as I don’t listen to music while driving. I also don’t think the antenna works
  • Typical wear and tear for a ~40 year old car (door cards leaving a gap, zebrano trim warped)
I wouldn't recommend driving it away, just in case the car's Air-Fuel ratio does need adjusting. But can easily be started and driven down the street or onto a trailer. I'm happy to help coordinate with a shipping company if required
