Vehicle Description

This beautiful Mercedes, a U.S. version, was delivered to its buyer in Germany in February 1972 (have paperwork ). It is a very early model, serial number 2847. The car shows 64,680 miles on the odometer. Documents exist which show that only 1,500 miles have been put on the car in the last 8 years, but there is not adequate documentation to prove the odometer reading.

This is the first year for the 107 modelwhich was produced from 1972 to 1989. The 1972 U.S. model was labeled as a 350SL, but has a 4.5L engine; in 1973 the model was renamed as 450SL. The 1972 and 1973 models were the only years to have the small bumpers which make the car look so much better than the later models, and is absent the catalytic converters and complex and trouble prone climate control system of later years.

The car was repainted in 2009 in the original dark olive (dunkeloliv) color, code 291 on the data plate. The color combination of this exterior color with the bamboo colored interior makes this car very attractive. The car has a beautiful brown canvas convertible top which looks beautiful with the green body color, and it also has the removable hard top in the same color as the body.

In the last few years (within 200 miles) the following services have been performed on the car for which full receipts are available:

· Transmission filter and fluid change

· Engine oil and filter change

· Engine coolant changed

· Brake lines (most), hoses, and fluid replaced

· Fuel filter, fuel lines (most) replaced. New spare pump purchased.

· Power steering filter replaced

· Steering Coupler replaced (commonBenz problem - causes vague steering if worn)

· Valves adjusted to specification

· Front sub-frame mounts, motor mounts, motor shock absorbers, transmission mounts, rear sway bar links, front sway bar bushings replaced

· Steering box seals replaced

· Distributor vacuum advance replaced

· A/C system o-rings replaced, and system changed over from R-12 to R-134 equivalent

· New battery

· Interior rejuvenated with beautiful replacement center console and new carpets

Prior to my ownership, but within the past 1,500 miles, the brake booster, brake hoses, water pump, and exhaust system were replaced.

Everything works on this car, including the vacuum door lock system, clock, and a/c. It has the original working Becker radio. The car hasno rust anywhere. You are unlikely to find an SL which has had so many recent replacements of significant components which will help insure trouble free enthusiast driving for years.

Have car cover (used to keep dust off of car) and harness and winch for lifting/storing hard top.

Defects: The canvas top looks beautiful; like it was never used, however there is a small area of discoloration on the vinyl window. The hardtop has a very small ding on the top back edge. There is also a small ding on the area just in front of the trunk lid. The last three pictures show these fairly minor defects.

I encourage you to come look at the car. Contact me to make arrangements.
