About the Land Rover Series III (1971-1985)
The Land Rover Series III was introduced in 1971 and continued the legendary legacy of its predecessors. While it retained the iconic boxy design, it featured several upgrades:
✅ New plastic grille replacing the wire mesh
✅ Synchromesh transmission in all forward gears
✅ Alternator upgrade replacing the old generator
✅ Updated dashboard with improved controls
Though its rugged off-road reputation remained, the Series III faced tough competition from American-made off-roaders like the Jeep CJ-5, Ford Bronco, and Chevrolet Blazer, which offered greater comfort and convenience. Due to changing U.S. regulations and the 1973-74 oil crisis, British Leyland halted imports of the Land Rover in 1974, making this one of the last officially imported models before the brand’s return in 1987.
Land Rover Series III are incredibly difficult to import and register in the state of California. This is a clean body, cleanly registred VIN.
