1965 DODGE CORONET AWB AFX roller 8.50 cage Rust free Dana 60 Excellent
This is my 1965 Dodge Coronet that I built to mimic the Mr. Norms AFX Hardtop from the 60’s.
This was started in 2008 when I was drag racing my 63 Plymouth “Thanks Mom” and wanted to build the killer AWB race car. I was good and was winning for years in my 63 and wanted a killer drag car. Was building this then in 2012 was diagnosed with cancer. Sprayed everything in 2 part PPG epoxy and went into treatment. Came out awesome and started racing again and also started working on my dream build. Anyway, I found out I wasn’t a good drag racer anymore or as good at many quick decision things. Around 2014 the steering and cage were completed and I shelved this project and said I would finish it when I retired. Well…here are today in 2025 and I have not regained my racing ability and have decided I am not going to complete my AWB car.
This was built to the extreme. I have an 8” x 8” iron beam frame that this car was laser leveled and welded to prior to the transformation of 15” rear axle moved forward and the rebuilt restored straight front axle moved 10” forward. Everything is rust free and done over the top. The frame is a complete 2x3 box from the front all the way to the rear leaf springs. Not a driveway butcher job. Everything inside, top, to bottom is welded and rust encapsulated. All work on this car is 11 years old plus…so you would see problems if there were.
All parts are NEW. Cal tracs, front springs, big GM calipers, steering box, cross steering, steering column, B&M shifter, painless wiring, aluminum seat, quick release steering wheel, front springs, fuel tank, fiberglass fenders, deck, hood, and bumper.
Shifter pedestal with release, have aluminum fitted tunnel, EVERTHING has been fitted using a real 426 HEMI. Welded driveshaft loop, welded seat supports, floor and trunk are perfect and fully welded. Has fitted and checked front and rear “elephant ears” to mount motor. Professional built 8.50 et cage. Sedan doors with lexan cut windows ready to bolt in as well as custom “POST” with rear windows with custom post trim with lexan as well. Windows have rubber gaskets as well. All are fabricated and will bolt in with stainless steel hardware provided. Bodywork needs finished but all done to this point with Upol and PPG.
Fiberglass is the decklid, hood, scoop, fenders, front bumper. All are new. I was going to run a steel rear bumper but as of now I can’t find it.
My ask is less than it would cost to find a good donor then the cage and all the parts included. The work is over 900 hours and is done very well.
