The DeSoto brand was launched in 1928 by Walter P. Chrysler in an effort to offer more mid-line prices. Joseph E. Fields was appointed as the president of the new DeSoto Motors Corporation and released the first model in 1929, the DeSoto Model K 6. The DeSoto brand was prominent in the automotive world, until the marque was officially dropped in 1960.
