Vehicle Description

1972 Datsun 240Z – 5.0L V8 Mustang Swap – Runs Strong!

Up for sale is my 1972 Datsun 240Z project. This classic Z has been upgraded with a Ford 5.0L High Output V8 (early 1990s Mustang) engine paired with a Borg-Warner T5 5-speed manual transmission. The swap was done right — solid mounts, reliable wiring, and excellent cooling with dual electric fans. It’s a very fast, fun car that gets attention everywhere it goes.

Drivetrain & Performance

  • Ford 5.0L HO V8 (Fuel Injected, early-90s Mustang)
  • Borg-Warner T5 5-Speed Transmission
  • Two electric radiator fans — car never overheats
  • Custom exhaust
  • Starts, runs, and drives strong
  • Transmission makes some noise but shifts smoothly

Brakes & Suspension

  • Front brakes upgraded to Toyota 4-Runner disc brakes
  • Rear brakes converted from drums to discs
  • Rota Kensei 15x8 wheels with 4-lug pattern
  • Suspension and frame reinforced — solid and reliable

Exterior

  • Straight body, older white paint shows some wear
  • Minor rust spots and cosmetic blemishes typical for age
  • Overall very solid and great foundation for a restoration or track build

Interior

  • Clean interior with bucket seats
  • 3-spoke steering wheel, factory dash and gauges
  • Manual windows, solid floors

Other Details

  • Oregon title in hand
  • VIN: (include if you’re comfortable)
  • Always stored indoors recently
  • Reliable, strong-running engine swap — ready to enjoy or take to the next level

Why Selling

I have too many ongoing projects and need to make room. This car is a blast to drive and a perfect base for someone who wants a unique, V8-powered Z that’s already mechanically sorted.

Note to buyers: Transmission has some noise but functions fine — drives, shifts, and accelerates well. Car is being sold as-is.
