Citroën History in the USA from MotorWeek

There were no new Citroëns sold in the US after the brands withdrawal from the US market in 1973? That’s only half the truth. Not many people know that the CX was actually officially sold in America. CX Auto, a completely independent company based in New Jersey, imported a few hundreds of them from 1987 till 1990. After that, they even brought in a few XMs. Funny thing is, that they never had Citroëns approval for their business. So there was not a single Citroën badge or logo attached to the cars.

I just love this Motor Week Review from 1988. Because it shows that the CX was actually considered a good car by American motoring journalists. Like most other Citroën models were. The SM even won Motor Trends "Car of the year" award in 1972. But a bigger success was prevented by Citroëns scarce dealer and service network and the retarded safety regulations by the US government. The latter is actually really funny, because the DS, SM and CX were all way safer than most of their American competitors.
