The first redesigned General Motors vehicles produced after WW II, the Advance-Design" Chevrolet and GMC pickup trucks entered production in May 1947. Offered along three series, they were all designated Thrift-Master" models, with the 3100 series denoting the half-ton pickup trucks. Thanks to GM engineers working under John G. Wood, the new truck cabs were at once wider, lower, more comfortable and more user-friendly than ever before, with room for three occupants. by virtue of widening made possible by lowering the body down and around the frame rails. A host of mechanical advancements also made them easier to operate, resulting in their strong collectability today.
