Vehicle Description

1966 BUICK RIVIERA GSRUNNING RESTORATION PROJECT GRAN SPORTFACTORY DUAL QUAD CARBS
This is not just a Riviera GS (rare in their own regard) but is the "Super Wildcat" version of the GS with factory equipped dual 4 barrel carburetors on its 425ci engine. Just 179 Gran Sports were built with the option and they were given an engine code bearing the prefix "MZ". The dual quad setup gave the car an extra 20 horses to 360hp and465-lbs.ft. of torque at just 2,800 rpm. It is a true "banker's hotrod".
This car still has its original matching numbersengine with the factory stamped "MZ" engine code with both 4bbl carburetors-see photos. Also present are the rare ribbed aluminum valve covers. It also has its original Super Turbine 400 transmission with the code "BS" which is the transmission that all the dual quad cars came with.
The car is a restoration project and has spent the last 20-30 years parked. The engine runs and sounds strong-see the video. The engine was run on an "IV" of fuel as the gas tank needs boiling out. The tank is solid, it just had old gas sitting in it. There is a new ignition switch installed in the car but not pictured.
According to the data plate, the car was originally Riviera Gold with a (painted, not vinyl) Arctic White roof. It has had a color change to the current bronze color. The interior in the car is still completely original in its Light Fawn vinyl and needs to be restored. The car is equipped with power brakes, power steering, air conditioning, power windows and a tilt rally style steering wheel (which is in excellent condition). And, being a Gran Sport it has the limited slip rear and the sportier suspension.
The body has never suffered an accident and has no bondo. There is a ding in the right front as well as other small dents and scratches. There is rust in the trunk lid and a small bit at the base of the windshield and rear window. There is no rust in the rockers or floors and the trunk is rust free.
The grill is nice and straight. The front bumper has a push in the lower center but is otherwise good as is the rear bumper. The original chrome wheels show haze and deterioration of the chrome. I believe the car to be complete minus the rear window trim and rear trunk edge trim.
This is a solid project and it absolutely deserves a proper restoration because of its rarity, beauty and desirability. With just 179 ever built, you'll be hard pressed to find another and they rarely come up for sale-plus you get bragging rights by owning one of the rarest American production cars ever.
