This 1957 BMW 503 is one of 139 cabriolets produced between 1956 and 1959 and is among a reported 13 examples built for the North American market. Chassis 69086 was completed on January 31, 1957, and was delivered the following month to Hoffman Motor Cars of New York before spending much of its life in Malibu, California. The car was purchased in January 2018 by the selling dealer, who subsequently commissioned a cosmetic refurbishment that was completed in 2023 and included a bare metal repaint in the original shade of Papyrus and a re-trim of the interior in blue leather with pale gray piping. Power is provided by a 3.2-liter OHV V8 that features an aluminum block and cylinder heads and dual downdraft carburetors and is paired with a remotely mounted column-shifted four-speed manual transmission. Additional features include a power-operated dark blue convertible top, vacuum-assisted finned drum brakes, painted 16” ventilated steel wheels, independent front suspension, and a Becker Mexico AM/FM radio. This 503 cabriolet is now offered with a BMW Classic certificate, invoices dating back to the 1960s, service and owner’s manuals, a tool kit, and a clean South Dakota title.
